Note: This is applicable for Pages and Posts

Quick Summary

  • Who can do it? Administrators, Editors, Authors, Contributors
  • How to reach it? Content > Posts and Marketing > Landing Pages

What, Why

On websites that have a lot of pages, breadcrumb navigation can greatly enhance the way users find their way around. In terms of usability, breadcrumbs reduce the number of actions a website visitor needs to take in order to get to a higher-level page, and they improve the findability of website sections and pages. They are also an effective visual aid that indicates the location of the user within the website’s hierarchy, making it a great source of contextual information for landing pages.

How

Open the WordPress Posts Editor. Open the sidebar and scroll down to Breadcrumbs section. Choose to show or hide the breadcrumb. You can choose to add custom breadcrumb. For pages, it takes headline of first slice and for posts it will take the post title.

Here are the different ways in which you can add the navigation.

  • [post] will take the current post
  • [post-{id}] will take the post with that specific ID
  • [category-{id}] [post-{id}] will first add a category with that ID and then post with that ID.

How do I get the IDs to add it inside breadcrumb?

Open the post/ page/ category or tag that you want to add in the breadcrumb path. In the URL you will see the ID. In this example, ID is 5297.
